Course Details

Objectives 

a)Construction Management 

The student will gain an extensive knowledge of the legal and contractual systems relevant to the construction industry. He will also study how design and construction work is priced and how these prices are used to control the costs for the firms involved. He will analyze the systems that control the quality and safety of construction projects, and will gain a greater understanding of the relationships between the various contributing parties. This course provides a strategic overview of construction management issues as well as a deep and broad knowledge of advanced project management techniques.

b)Structural Design and Construction Management

The student  will learn how to carry out the conceptual and detailed design of standard and innovative structures and substructures under normal and earthquake actions, to latest standards, using steel and concrete. He will also study the financial, legal and contractual problems associated with the construction process, and will learn how to apply your knowledge of management techniques and contract administration in the supervision of construction projects.

The student  will have the opportunity to carry out research and undertake industry-relevant dissertation projects.

The advanced concrete design module is assessed by coursework based on the national university competition organized by The Concrete Centre, the trade body representing the concrete industry in the UK.

The course is led by a fellow of both the Institution of Civil Engineers and the Institution of Structural Engineers with industrial and academic experience and expertise in advanced concrete design and seismic design.
